Stefi Cohen Just Shattered 3 World Records in One Day
Powerlifter Stefi Cohen has a habit of breaking world records, and she took the opportunity to do just that at this past weekend’s Hybrid Showdown II, a World Raw Powerlifting Federation-sanctioned competition held at her Hybrid Performance Method gym.
Weighing in at 114.19 pounds—her lightest weight in three years—she deadlifted 202.5kg (446 pounds) for an all-time world record, squatted 205kg (452 pounds) for another all-time world record. She benched 102.5kg (226 pounds), lifting a total of 510 kg (1,124 pounds) for yet another all-time world record.
Check out videos of the lifts here:
Cohen typically competes in the 56kg (123-pound) weight class, but she cut 15 pounds ahead of the Hybrid Showdown to compete at 52kg (114.6 pounds) and snatch a few more records. Her grand total is now 25 all-time world records, which is absolutely incredible considering she’s only 27 years old. Some Instagram followers commented that she should jump up to the 132-pound weight class, and Cohen replied that she’d even move up to compete at 148 pounds.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for Cohen, but there were a few other world records to be spoken for at Sunday’s invite-only competition.
Jamal Browner broke two all-time world records in the 110kg (242-pound) raw class with a 440.5kg (971.5-pound) deadlift and a 990kg (2,182.6-pound) total. Despite his success, he’s got his eyes set on even bigger numbers and is prepping for the Animal Pak cage, a platform where many a lifter has pushed their limits.
Another record-breaking athlete at the weekend’s competition was another 110kg lifter, Kevin Oak, who squatted 860 pounds raw for an all-time world record. Somehow, he made it look relatively easy.
Another popular lifter who showed face at the event was Jon Call, aka jujimufu. He’s been known for his feats of strength and wild stunts for some time now, but the Hybrid Showdown was his first full powerlifting meet, he said in an Instagram post.
He competed at 110kg and ended the day with a 302.5kg (666.9-pound) squat, 182.5kg (402.3-pound) bench press—with an arm injury, he expained in the comments on his post—and a 302.5kg (666.9-pound) deadlift for a 787.5kg (1,736.1-pound) total. Not bad for a first-timer.
With so many talented and driven lifters in the game, we can’t wait to see how far they can push it to keep those world records rising.

Here’s Your First Look at Marvel’s New Disney+ Shows

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has dominated the big screen for the last decade, and now the MCU is expanding to your television. Disney debuted the first look at three Marvel shows coming to Disney Plus with a Super Bowl trailer, teasing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki.
The first series to hit the service will be Falcon and the Winter Soldier in August 2020. The show stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes / the Winter Soldier and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, who will be taking over the mantle of Captain America from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). The series is also going to include new characters and others who have appeared in MCU films before, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent.
With the first trailer debuting, Marvel released an official synopsis of the series: “Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The all-new series is directed by Kari Skogland; Malcolm Spellman is the head writer. Debuts on Disney+ this fall.”
Here’s a new trailer previewing the three new shows coming to Disney Plus from Marvel:
WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision in what might be Marvel’s most unique project yet. As the trailer reveals, the show is going to appear in a “sitcom setting” referencing some of the classic shows from the 1950s through the ’90s. Bettany called the series “super avant-garde and weird” to IGN and it is going to tie directly into the 2021 sequel Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
The Loki show stars Tom Hiddleston and will follow his character as he “uses the Tesseract to travel through time and alter human history.” The trailer hints that the TVA organization—the Time Variance Authority—which has a major presence in Marvel comics, will play a key role in the show. Owen Wilson recently joined the series in an undisclosed part.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier is coming to Disney Plus in August 2020, while WandaVision will debut in Fall 2020. Loki is expected to be released in Spring 2021.
Running a Marathon Can Take Years Off Your Arteries’ Age

Getting specific with fitness goals is an important step in setting yourself up for success. So if you’re aiming to “get better at running” or “do more cardio” this year, you might want to consider making a marathon one of your 2020 goals. Not only will completing a 26.2-mile course help you feel more accomplished than adding a few minutes to your post-workout treadmill walk, but a new study found that it could take years off your arteries’ age.
We don’t have to tell you that training for a marathon is no joke, but research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that 138 first-time marathoners who followed the London Marathon’s “Beginner’s Training Plan” for six months ahead of 2016 and 2017 races saw some serious health benefits.
Researchers assessed the trainees before and after their six-month training regimens and found that training lowered participants’ blood pressure and reduced artery stiffness—both important aspects of heart health. Arteries naturally get stiffer as we age, but that rigidity adds to the risk of cardiovascular issues. Training for the marathon essentially shaved four years off participants’ blood vessels’ ages, with older people seeing bigger changes over the course of the training.
“Our study highlights the importance of lifestyle modifications to slow the risks associated with aging, especially as it appears to never be too late as evidenced by our older, slower runners,” senior author Charlotte H. Manisty, MD, said in a release. She also noted that signing up for a marathon or fun run can be a great way for beginners to get motivated to stick to a training regimen.
While this particular study only recruited healthy participants with no pre-existing heart disease, the researchers think that those with high blood pressure and stiffer arteries may actually see an even better response to picking up a cardio training regimen.
“Our study shows it is possible to reverse the consequences of aging on our blood vessels with real-world exercise in just six months,” Manisty said. “These benefits were observed in overall healthy individuals across a broad age range and their marathon times are suggestive of achievable exercise training in novice participants.”

Eddie Hall Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Details of His 500kg Deadlift
Strongman Eddie Hall’s most famous accomplishment is an absolutely monstrous 500kg (1,102-pound) deadlift, a feat so spectacular it has not been surpassed or even repeated since the Briton did it in 2016. So it only makes sense that Hall celebrated reaching the 500K YouTube subscribers by detailing how the hell he was able to accomplish the legendary lift.
In a near-23-minute video, the strongman shows never before seen footage of the feat of strength and takes the viewers through the preparation, execution, and aftermath of it all.
There are a few takeaways from the video. Perhaps one of the top ones is that Hall revealed he had to put himself into a dark place to get 500kg off the ground.
There are circumstances, he explained, wherein people can recruit 100 percent of their muscle fibers. This is usually accomplished in life-or-death situations: children tasked with lifting a car off their parent, for example.
“It’s something that can’t be faked,” Hall says in the video. “If you got a gun to your head and someone saying ‘Pick up that 200 kilo deadlift or I’m going to blow your head off,’ more than likely you’re going to do it.” Hall sat down with psychotherapists and other mental health professionals to recreate such a situation in his mind. What was it? He won’t say.
“We were able to talk about a situation, and this situation was very dark and gloomy that I can’t say it out loud because you would think I’m an absolute sicko for thinking this in my own head,” he says. “Basically put me in a situation in my head where I’m not lifting a weight off the floor, but pulling a person off my kids.” In another mental exercise, Hall envisioned the judge for the deadlift contest as “the devil.”
But even more shocking than the prep and the lift is the trauma Hall’s body went through after. Hall recalls blacking out shortly before going for the lift, and coming to at the top of it. Then, he passed out again. Once he got backstage, his body went into extreme shock. His heart rate was over 200 beats per minute, and his blood pressure was “through the roof.”
“I lost the vision in the center of my eye,” he recalls. “I remember staring at the ceiling in the middle of this hallway … and I thought this is where I’m going to die.”
We’ve all felt dizzy after a big deadlift or squat, so just imagine doing one of those at with half a ton of weight. It’s no surprise Hall’s body went into shock.
Fortunately, the legend is still around today. Though he’s no longer competing in Strongman, he remains one of its biggest icons.
He recently got into business with Arnold Schwarzenegger to bring the Arnold Sports Festival to the UK in 2021.
Hall’s consistently said that someone will beat his world record, and that he’ll be the first to congratulate him. Add us to the list of people eager to see that happen

Watch the First Action-Packed ‘Fast & Furious 9’ Trailer

The first Fast & Furious 9 trailer arrived ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, giving fans a look at Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and the rest of the Furious crew in the final chapters of the Fast Saga.
A tenth sequel is scheduled for release in 2021, making Fast & Furious 9 the “beginning of the end” for the (very) long-running action franchise. What started out as a small movie about street racers and an undercover cop has become one of the biggest action movie series of all time. Spinoffs and other related projects are likely imminent—including a possible sequel to Hobbs & Shaw with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham—but these two movies might be the final times to see Diesel and co. in action.
Here’s a look at the Fast and Furious 9 trailer:

Along with Diesel, Rodriguez, and Gibson, the returning cast includes Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron, as well as new additions like John Cena and Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker. Brewster is returning to the franchise for the first time since Furious 7 in 2015, something she previously told Men’s Journal she’s very excited about.
“It makes me really happy to come back,” Brewster said. “I was kind of bummed out not to have been a part of the last one. I felt like I was missing out because they’re family. I adore Vin [Diesel] and Michelle [Rodriguez]. We’ve been a part of each other’s lives for so long, so I’m so happy to be back in the fold. I really can’t wait for the next chapter. We have the best fans in the world and it’s very cool that the series has been introduced to new generations—and we have die-hard fans that have been with us since the beginning.”
Fast & Furious 9 is set for a May 22, 2020 release.
